Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy Massage
Massage uses deep and therapeutic touch to release tension that's been built up and stored in the tissues for days or sometimes much longer, thus promoting healing. As soon as your skin's nerve cells feel pressure, they signal the brain to release feel-good chemicals called endorphins, which boost your mood and give you a natural high. As a result, stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline begin to decrease and the overall effect is one of euphoria and bliss.

Massage for Pregnancy
Pregnancy Massage is a safe and soothing treatment for women in their second and third trimester who are experiencing a normal, healthy pregnancy. The treatment relieves fluid retention and pressure due to weight gain, encourages healthy circulation, and promotes restful sleep patterns. It also helps to support the changes taking place in your body. Common pregnancy problems can be reduced in a pleasant, holistic and natural manner with regular relaxing massage sessions.
If your pregnancy is looking like it may go for longer than expected, we are able to offer a 'labour focused massage,' which uses pressure points to assist the body to prepare for labour.
Pregnancy massage is suitable for healthy pregnant women who are greater than 12 weeks pregnant.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is one of the most popular forms of massage therapy. It can help you relax, give you more energy, and may help after an injury. It involves long, kneading strokes combined with rhythmic tapping strokes and gentle passive movement of the joints, aiming to target the uppermost layer of muscles to assist with relieving muscle tension.
The four most common strokes used in Swedish massage are:
1. Effleurage: smooth, gliding strokes to relax soft tissue
Petrissage: squeezing, rolling, or kneading
2. Friction: Deep, circular movements to increase blood flow and break down scar tissue
3. Tapotement: tapping with cupped hands, fingers, or the edge of the hand
4. Vibration
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is a specialist massage that uses smooth, flat, heated stones that are positioned along your spine, in the palms of your hands, along your legs and between the toes.
A hot stone massage begins with a traditional Swedish massage technique to prepare your muscles. Your massage therapist will then place the warm stones on key acupressure points on your body. The stones warm and relax your muscles, allowing deeper pressure to be applied during your massage.
Using massage oil and a combination of strokes and techniques, your massage therapist will massage your neck, back, arms and legs both with and without the stones. You should always tell your spa therapist if the stones are too warm or the pressure is too intense. The stones are usually heated to just above body temperature so they are comfortable to handle by the therapist.
Hot stone massage is not recommended for people who are pregnant but is otherwise suitable for all other body types. Some benefits of hot stone massage include:
✔ relaxing tense muscles
✔ aiding pain relief
✔ alleviating depression
✔ promoting sleep
✔ improving circulation.
Hot stone therapy helps people who suffer from:
✔ stress
✔ back pain
✔ muscular pain
✔ fibromyalgia
✔ insomnia
✔ depression or anxiety
✔ poor circulation

How should I prepare for a massage?
To maximize your massage experience, arrive well-hydrated, avoid heavy meals immediately before the session, and allow time for relaxation afterward. Inform your therapist about any specific concerns or areas you'd like to target during the massage. It's also essential to arrive on time to ensure you receive your full allotted session time.
What should I expect during a massage session?
During a massage session, you'll undress to your comfort level (usually keeping underwear on) and lie on a massage table covered with a sheet or towel. The therapist will use various techniques to address your specific needs. Communication is essential, so feel free to provide feedback on pressure, areas of focus, and comfort.
Is it safe to have a massage during pregnancy?
Yes, pregnancy massage, when performed by a trained and qualified therapist, is generally safe and can be highly beneficial for expectant mothers. Prenatal massage is specifically designed to address the unique needs and concerns of pregnant women. However, it's essential to inform your therapist about your pregnancy and any complications or health issues to ensure the massage is tailored to your situation
When is the best time to schedule a pregnancy massage?
Prenatal massage can be enjoyed at any stage of pregnancy, but most women find it particularly beneficial during the second and third trimesters. During the first trimester, some may choose to wait until they have passed the sensitive early weeks. Always consult with your healthcare provider before scheduling a prenatal massage to ensure it's suitable for your individual circumstances. Your therapist will use specialized techniques and positioning to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the session.
How is pregnancy massage performed?
Pregnancy massage, also known as prenatal massage, is performed with careful consideration of the expectant mother's comfort and safety.
